Responsibility for another assumes that a person’s inability requires us to decide for him or her. Little children and old people need loving caregivers to be responsible for them. However, we are not responsible for other adults. In order to hide our fear of facing our heart’s truths and our individual journey, we try to manipulate others into taking responsibility for us.
Responsibility to another person is a form of love and respect. We are responsible to others when we speak truth from our hearts, but we leave others to decide for themselves, knowing that their life is their own. Responsibility to others recognizes their capabilities and at the same time our need for help.
This Glossary of Heart presents a daily choice for us. The first option keeps us where we are. The second option takes us on a journey into our hearts. It’s the hardest yet most courageous choice we can make. I hope you take the risk.
